Faten Hamama in Beirut:

The great artist Fatin Hamama was awarded the Arab Woman of the Year Award and honored in Lebanon by Hariri Foundation represented by MP Bahiah El Hariri. Hamama was received in the Guests of Honor Hall at Beirut Airport by Hariri and the Egyptian ambassador in Lebanon Adel El-Khodari. Fatin Hamama was also honored by the Lebanese President Emil Lahoud and was awarded the National Cedar Badge of Honor.

‘Monamnamat Tarikiah’ at Al Madina Theatre:

The great director Nidal El-Ashkar presented her play (Monamnamat Tarikhiah). The script is adapted by the play of Saadallah Wannouss and it makes the audience go back in time to the 14th century. Twenty two actors made this play a success with their various talents and distinctive acting abilities.

Wine Tasting at Phoenicia:

Wine tasting has become one of the traditions of Phoenicia Intercontinental Hotel. For the third year in a row, a number of Lebanese socialites gathered to listen to the presentation of Jean Brats who visited Lebanon especially for the occasion, and tasted some quality wine.

Syrian Song Festival:

The winners in the Syrian Song Festival were honored last week in a huge festival organized by the Ministry of Information in Aleppo. Diverse socialites attended this festival and enjoyed the event.


Coming Up:

The organizing committee of  Dubai’s Shopping Festival announced that the Lebanese Diva Fayrouz will present a concert at the American University in Dubai on March 29th . The committee also announced that artist Julia Botros will also present a concert on the occasion on March 15th.

Melhem Barakat presents a concert every Saturday and on February 13th at Regency Palace Hotel, Adma. He will also be presenting concerts at Casino Du Liban on February 8, 9, and 10.

Singer Ghassan Khalil will present two concerts on the occasion of  Valentine’s Day this year. The first concert is on February 10th at Samaher restaurant in Tabarja. The second is on February 17th at the Golden Beach in Antellias. Between the 10th and the 17th of February, singer Ghassan Khalil will present concerts at Rawabi Restaurant in Damascus.

Singer Mayez El-Bayaa featuring Jehan will present Vanlentine’s Day concert at Options night club on February 17th. Dancer Dona will also present a special performance.

(Monamnamat Tarikhiah) is currently showing at El-Madina theater in Beirut. The play is written by Saadallah Wannouss and directed by Nidal El-Ashkar.

Artist Assi El-Hellani will present two concerts on the occasion of Valentine’s Day on February 9 and 10  at Atlal Plaza Tabarja. On Sunday, Atlal Plaza presents dancer Jehan El-Masri.

Choreographer and director, Dr. Jana El Hassan, and her group presents a one-hour ballet performance at Beirut Theatre on February 13, 2001.

The great artist Mansour Rahbani will present his play (El-Moutanabi) for the first time at the Dubai Shopping Festival on March 7th. The play is an Opera Comedy that includes poems written by El-Moutanabi and composed by Mansour Rahbani. Marwan and Ousama Rahbani supervised the music direction. El-Moutanabi’s role will be played by artist Ghassan Saliba. This play reveals how a word embraces the destiny of a human being, who builds his life according to it.

Artist Najwa Karam will present a concert at “Hala Febrayer” Festival in Kuwait on February 8, 2001.

Dancer Nina Rahbani flew to Bahrain to present several shows at Diplomat Hotel.

Preparations for the New Tunisian Song Festival are underway.The festival will take place at the Local Theater in the capital city, Tunisia, on February 28th, March 1st and 2nd. The festival includes several contests and awards. The nominees in this festival are still  unannounced.

Singer Mohammad Iskandar will sing for 20 days at Zikrayat Restaurant in Damascus and will present the Valentine’s day concert at Kefraya.

For our skiers this season, the following are the attractions that might be the right places to get some special entertainment while dancing and listening to music:

  • L’Epinoche, L’Igloo, L’Interdit, Le Kayak, Lights, and Stars in Faraya

  • La Boite de Faqra Club in Faqra

  • Shangri-La Hotel in Laqlouq

  • Skidou, Boheme, and La Voute in Zaarour

You can dance until the sun rises to the tunes of a DJ that plays club music (Acid jazz, hip hop drum and bass) at Acid night club.

BO18 night club is distinguished by its crazy coffins décor and gothic grandeur. BO18 also presents acid jazz, drum and bass, hip hop, trip hop and house music.

Bashar Darweesh sings at Tarabia restaurant.

Amadios Night club is crowded every night with the dancing guys and girls as well as artists such as Saber Roubaai.

Singer Saaid Abu Reech sings at Kasr El-Hawanim night club.

Ozone night club is the best place for friends to dance and have fun with the crowded entertainment scheduele.

Earthquake night club presents live entertainment with Alex Maalouf who sings western songs and Oussama Sultan who sings eastern songs.

Indiana night club is distinguished by its beautiful atmosphere where couples dance to an improved and varied mix of music-from classic 70s and 80s tunes to Latino and French to the latest chart-toppers.

Retro night club is a small and intimate club that has its own bizarre touch of décor such as antiques fabrics covering the walls and sofas as well as the mirrored ceilings, funky tunes and strobe lights.

Amory Libertad is distinguished by its very lively atmosphere, especially later in the evening when the dance floor is packed with couples twirling to the groovy rhythms of Jose Fernandez and his band of gypsies. Cuban band, Flamenco dancer and DJ perform every night.

Singer Ziad Shalhoub is presenting a magnificent atmosphere with his lovely songs at Amadious night club in Dbaiyeh.

Blue Velvet presents Arabic music as well as the usual disco favorites. But there’s also something a little different: The live eccentric show on Saturday, and techno acid and Arabic music. Singers Joe Shamoun, Michal Haj and Majdoleen present the best entertainment at Blue velvet.

Egzit Nightclub that plays black music exclusively – R&B, hip hop, drum and beat, underground rap, soul and swing. It is open at 10:30 Wed., Sat, with the live show ‘Rap Zone’ on Thursdays featuring Mix FM’s DJ Rap Base playing till dawn, and gifts and prizes.

Eastern and western music is mixed together to present a charming atmosphere with singer Rashad Salwan at Titan night club.

Singer Wadii Ghoson presents classical oriental songs at Bazirkan restaurant.

Kookoo Club is a jungle setting, complete with trees, and a good mix of dance music.

Mandingo has a fun atmosphere and very lively crowd. The DJ spins mostly Oriental music with a little international flavor mixed in. It’s no surprise to discover that the music is loud and the atmosphere a little crazy.

Times is popular with the 20s and up in-crowd who want to dance and party all night long. Music is a mixture of Arabic and pop. There are lots of mirros for those who want to check out the way they look on the dance floor.

Waves Club boasts being the only one in the North. DJ music, and every Saturday night, a trio performs oriental and international music, with dancers from Studio El Fan.

Stars Nightclub has a fashionable décor, and good music at this ‘in’ place up in Faraya that can attract up to 800 partygoers on Saturdays.

Zanzibar’s décor is fun and blends local ethnic patterns, South American and African paintings and old Roman stones. Latin nights with half price tequila margaritas on Thursdays. Dance around the globe with Real World Music on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Fridays and Saturdays dance to new generation music. Jazz on Saturdays.

Chady’s Band plays every Wednesday at Hard Rock Café  

Singer Ghali Jubeili sings at Janna Restaurant.

Blue Note Café presents jazz music every Friday and Saturday.

Lossina nightclub in Kaslik presents the best nights with western and eastern dancing until the first break of dawn.

Dancer Dina presents the best performance at Al Awtar nightclub that creates a special eastern atmosphere for its visitors.

El-Sabil Restaurant at Regency Palace Hotel-Adma presents distinctive oriental nights every week with its special entertainment program.
