Towards Gibran's resting place
Gibran's resting place is separated from the room XVI by seven stone steps carved in the rocks of the monastery.
The old hermitage is the cemetery. It is the last stop of this visionary trip in the strange and original world of Gibran.
To the west side is another collection of some of Gibran's personal belongings and furniture: his painting corner, small cases and boxes, a short bed, the Crucifix, a table witness of the artist's sleepless nights spent in company of words, a chair... They all remind us of Gibran's New York studio.
On the south side, in front of the old icon which Gibran called his "Alter piece", we recall the story of its purchase in 1924. It reveals the specific expressions and characteristics he looked for "in Jesus", the one he sought for all his life.
Towards the north side, we can read the epitaph Gibran wished to be written on his tomb. Through the cracks of the piece of wood, appears parts of the coffin.
We dream of the artist's face.
Then going eastwards, we see in a corner two chandeliers, a portrait of Gibran painted by Youssef Hoayeck, when they were in Paris. Here we get to the exit. The wonderful, majestic cedar wooden environment and the drawings
complete each other. We reach the nature outside, preserving and cherishing "souvenirs" and memories... the Museum, wit its old and new buildings, overlooking the Qadisha valley.
