Determined to move
forward, the Sursock Museum is placing the dynamics which has been
driving it ever since the beginning in the service
of a continuously renewed vision, in order to keep the mission
that Nicolas Sursock assigned to the museum in harmony with its
time.
The museum is therefore getting ready to become
much more than an exhibition and conference center: a
fully-fledged cultural center for which the necessary expansion
works have started in the basement. The new premises shall
particularly allow the almost permanent presentation of its
collections and works in reserve, such as the important collection
of architecture photographs taken between 1935 and 1975 by the
first curator of the museum, Camille Aboussouan.

As it did in its early
stages, the museum is entering the new century with a flourish: on March 4,
1999, a cooperation agreement was signed with the Georges-Pompidou Center. This
qualitative improvement for the museum with regard to the occasional
partnerships it has kept with cultural centers established in Lebanon and some
foreign museums.
This exchange, and many others of the same kind that the
museum wishes to negotiate, shall allow the holding of major cultural events
within a program which would last several years.
Today, Nicolas Sursock's residence of the golden age is
poised to enter the year 2000, nestled in its past yet resolutely aiming at the
future.
