Planet Discovery: Children's Science MuseumFor the first time in Lebanon, a Children's Science Museum has been established under the name "Planet Discovery" with the collaboration of "La Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie" in Paris.
It incorporates a space where children and youngsters aged 3 to 15 can discover easily and with fun the secrets of life and the surrounding world. They can experiment with the techniques of communication, the machinery used, the application of some theories in physics, and test some structures for construction. It offers a variety of activities that can be classified according to four themes: Cultural leisure, Education and Training, Services and Research.

The themes of the exhibits laid out over an area of 1200m2, fascinate the children and stimulate their desire for learning and communicating with their teachers. The children are constantly invited to observe, handle and experiment. These interactive visits are completed at school with workshop programs. The ultimate aim of the Science Museum is based on the principle of mutual discovery and co-education.

The exhibition subject modules are:

"Planet Discovery" respects all international standards of safety and security. The Science Museum is fully equipped to welcome handicapped and visually impared persons. The exhibits are available in 4 languages: Arabic, French, English and Braille.
The children are not alone in their discoveris. They are surrounded by adults, a team of activity leaders will be available to guide the children through the visit and answer all inquiries. The presence of adults creates a context of exchange. The visiting time per session is one hour and a half, totaling 6 sessions per day and limiting the number of visitors to 120 people per session, allowing every child to discover and experiment freely with the different themes. The sessions incorporates 15 minutes special workshops and activities about various exhibition subjects.

-From Monday to Friday: 9h00 a.m. to 6h00 p.m., Visiting Sessions: 9h.00 a.m., 10h30 a.m., 12h00, 1h30 p.m., 4h30 p.m.
-Saturday, Sunday and Holidays: 10h.00 a.m. to 20h.00 p.m., Visiting Sessions: 0h30 a.m.,12h00, 1h30a.m., 4h30 p.m., 6h00 p.m.
Time per visit: one hour and a half.

"Planet Discovery" offers to the public a multi-use hall for various activities such as: private exhibitions, inter-school competitions, birthdays, special events.

Children's Science Museum

The Children's Village (3 to 12 years)
1- Communication techniques: The children are in a situation of communication. Communication is a neccessity to human beings, especially when they are away from each other, they use all sorts of tools to transmit their messages. At this exhibit three tools are at their disposal:
a- The speaking tubes
b- The videophones
c- Draw with your finger
2- Machines and Mechanisms: The children understand the functioning of some machines. While in some fields like mechanics, electronics and robotics the children realize how a machine can convert energy, substance and information as in:
a- The gear wheels
b- The digital display
c- The musical box

3- You & the Others: Every human being is unique. The young visitors realize how their bodies are functioning and their indiviuality. They learn what is happening before birth and how their bodies changes:
a- Hand prints
b- Pictures to touch
c- Questions of life (4 films)

4- Investigating life forms: The children observe the animals and their behavior:

a- The ants life
b- The worker ant
c- The magnifying glass, the binocular magnifier, the electronic microscope

Building Structures (5 to 15 years)
Man has a need to build. To shelter he builds houses. To span valleys and rivers he builds bridges.
The exhibition offers some basic structures used in buildings and we can see them in architectural designs. This exhibition is designed also for the visualy impaired. The subjects are:

a- The work of the substance
b- See the invisible deformation
c- To bend a beam
d- Reinforcing a beam
e- To build a complete arch
f- To build an arc in tas de charge
g- To consolidate a broken arch
h- To build a dome
i- To blow a vault
j - To withstand due to the shape
k- A good use of the metal
l- A square keeping its shape
m- To build a lattice work beam

To build a complete arch
The Unfinished House (3 to 5 years)
A building site suitable for small children. A socialization activity for the children. A space to play safely.
Phenomena (10 to 15 years)
This exhibition demonstrates in a simple and practical way some theories in physics and mathematics. The subjects are:

a- Pythagoras and the right-angled triangle
b- The square wheel
c- The hesitations of the pendulum
d- The floating ball
e- The leaning sea
f- Light in zigzag
