Vanessa-Mae, the outstanding young violonist
With her 25 musicians at Baalbeck on July 17th
She had her first music lesson, on the piano, at the age of five. Once proclaimed as "a true child prodigy", compared to Mozart and Mendelssohn, she turned into one of the most controversial musicians in the world of classical music.

Vanessa-Mae was born in Singapore on 27th October 1978. Half Thai, half Chinese, Vanessa-Mae moved to London at four, adopting Britain, British nationality and her english father.
At five, she took up the violin. At eight, Vanessa-Mae reached the first crossroads of her life, choosing to concentrate on the violin, after collecting her prize in the British Young Pianist at the age of ten.

By the time she was twelve, she had toured internationally as concerto

Vanessa-Mae
soloist and recitalist, released two classical recordings and embarked on her third album, which was to set a world record establishing her as the youngest ever to record the Tchaikovsky and Beethoven Violin Concertos.

Like all virtuosos, Vanessa-Mae is drawn to exploring new territory and standards for both violin and technique. Phenomenally talented, Vanessa-Mae doesn't want to be restricted to only one type of music, she plays classical and popular music on her acoustic and electric violin: « Beethoven and Beatles, Mozart and Michael Jackson, Paganini and Prince- I like them all. I therefore intend to play just «bout everything I like all the violin- and more... ». So at sixteen, Vanessa-Mae made her debut as a pop artist with the UK release of « The Violin Player », her first album of « techno-acoustic violin » music. That one album proved to be a worldwide success, which has gone gold, and multi platinum in over 20 countries.

In 1996, she was nominated for the « Best Female Artist » in the BRlT Awards. She is the first instrumentalist and classical) musician to be nominated for this award, which is voted for being a mainstream p)p award. Mat year l996-she appeared in the pages of « People » as one of the magazine's 50 most beautiful people in the world 1996. The distinction set the stage for the release of « The Classical Album I ».

1n 1997, Hong Kong honored Vanessa-Mae by inviting her to perform at the Hong Kong to China Re-unification ceremony, making her the only non-native to do so. It also resulted in the release of another album « China Girl » in an attempt to discover her Chinese roots ever since the passing of her grandfather when she was fifteen.

Vanessa-Mae has indeed come a 1nng way to be what she is today. To date, she has released a number of albums, which includes « 'I'he Original Four Seasons » the most recent one. She has also taken her first attempt at singing in her « Storm » album..

Vanessa-Mae's unique dual recording career is also reflected in her career as a « live » concert artist. She tours the world extensively, playing in venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie, The Royal Albert Hall, the Salle Pleyel, the Salsburg Festival Hall and touring venues all over the world in concert programmes combining traditional classical concertos with the exciting techno-acoustic violin virtuoso repertoire she is developing for herself and for violonists of the future generation.
