Arab
Oscars:
On March 11th, Arab Song Oscar Awards will be distributed in Paris with the
participation of a huge number of Arab music stars. A large number of Arab ambassadors in Paris have received
invitations to attend this big event and hand the awards to the winners.
Fairouz
Contacts are being made between Cairo and Beirut to convince the Lebanese diva,
Fairouz to sing in the Arab Song Festival that will take place in Cairo during
May, and in which she will be honoured being one of the most famous Arab women
singers. Fairouz requisted some time to think before consenting on sending a
delegation that will specify the time and place where she would be honoured and
what songs she would sing.
Mayada
El-Hennawi
Mayada is thinking of purchasing an apartment in Cairo where she will be staying
for a while to record her new songs, while keeping her house in Damascus. She
will fly to Cairo after the Adha Feast holiday to film the video of her song (Wahashtak
Walla Lissa). The song
is written by Omar Battisha and composed by Mohammed Sultan. She also apologized
for not presenting any concert during Adha.
George
Wassouf
Meanwhile, George Wassouf is in Beirut. Last week, he recorded two songs, after
deciding not to sing one song (Yikoun Fi Ouni) by Shaker El-Mouji. The two songs
that he recorded are composed by Shaker El-Mouji. The first is entitled (Lu'obat
Nazar), and the
second is (Dol Mish Habayib), written by Nabil Afyouni.
Elie
Shuweiri
The singer and composer, Elie Shuweiri, is still busy writing his new play
entitled (Hulm Mamno'u). He will star in the play and it will be playing at
Ivoire Theatre most probably after finishing Caracalla's (Blaylet Amar). He
declared that his play might be postponed due to his prior commitment with
Caracalla Group to go on a tour starting March 25th to U.A.E., Tunisia, and
Jordan.
Ragheb
Alameh
The latest from Ragheb is a new collection of songs, one of which is entitled (Bilahzet
Junoun). The lyrics are by Assem Hussein and the music is by Khaled Bakri who
has come to Lebanon especially for this purpose.
Latifa
Latifa has graduated with honors from the Higher Arab Music Academy. Her thesis
was about the difference between the technique and the Western and Eastern
music.
Elias
Rahbani
Elias Rahbani compiled his best pieces that he had composed for movies and T.V.
series and will play them in a large concert at Casino Du Liban Theatre on March
16th, 17th, 18th , & 19th. Rahbani will conduct the orchestra that consists
of 40 musicians. He has selected
artist Edgar Aoun who is famous for his opera voice to perform some songs. Aoun
will also form a duet with Pascal Sakr and sing one of the songs. This huge work
will compete with international concerts in terms of technique and elevated
standards of music.
Diana
Haddad
Diana Haddad is currently in Egypt where she will spend two weeks to record her
new album. She will return to Lebanon where she will be the guest of a couple of
interviews to talk about her new work, after which she will head to Dubai to
present Adha concerts.
Diana has received an invitation to participate in Qarthage Festival 2000, and
she is also getting prepared for a tour in the Arab Western countries.
Nawal
El-Zughbi
Meanwhile, Nawal is preparing for her new album that will be released this year.
It includes 8 tracks, four of which are marked by the Lebanese and Egyptian
accents, while the rest are characterized by the Algerian Rye music that is
gaining great success in the Arab music circles. Nawal is working with a number
of lyricists and composers including Nizar Frances, Ahmad Shatta, Marwan Khouri,
Wissam Amir, and Safi Botilla.
Katia
Harb
Katia responded to the invitation of the Tunisian Television to participate in
the show (Ma'a Salamah). She also received another invitation from Dubai's Television to participate in one of
its shows. Katia is laying the final touches on her new album that includes 6
songs varying between the Lebanese and Bedowin accents. The lyrics are by Michel
Jeha, Safouh Shaghala and others. The music is by Tarek Abu Jaoude, Suheil
Fares, Joseph Jeha, and Wissam El-Amir.
Walid
Toufique
Walid Toufique presented two concerts at UNESCO Palace Theatre during which he
presented his new album entitled (Ya Leil). Toufique is getting set to shoot the
videos of his two songs (Jamil Oyoun) and (Ala Wein). On the other hand, he is
traveling to Egypt and will be reviewing the script of his new movie with Ilham
Chahine entitled (Habibha) or 'her lover'.
Kathem
Essaher
Kathem Essaher is laying the final touches on his new songs that constitute his
new album entitled (El-Hub El-Mustaheel). The album includes varied poems by
Karim Iraqi and Asaad Gharizy, in addition to two others by the Late Nizar
Qabbani.
