Macke
was
born
at
Meschede
in
Westphalia
in
1887
and
he
died
young,
like
Marc,
fighting
in
France
in
1914,
from
1911
to
1912
he
was
one
of
the
group
of
the
"blaue
Reiter",
with
Kandinsky
and
Marc
whom
he
had
known
in
1909.
At
that
time
he
had
already
travelled
widely
in
Italy,
Belgium
and
Holland
and
had
visited
London
and
Paris.
A
little
later,
in
the
spring
of
1914,
he
went
to
Tunis
with
Klee.
His
small
output
of
works
in
oil
and
water-colour,
where
his
colours
were
refined
and
sharp,
makes
him
an
artist
of
rather
moderate
status.
He
worked
hard
to
make
his
forms
simple
by
using
geometrically
essential
squares
and
deliberate
contrasts
of
colours. |
