Grupo Corpo

The Place of  Corpo

Grupo Corpo was founded by Paulo Pederneiras in 1975 as a contemporary dance company, typically Brazilian in its creations. Throughout, Grupo Corpo has been guided by three main concerns: the definition of an identity linked to the idea of a national culture, the continuity of the work, the integrity in maintaining self-imposed standards.

Rodrigo Pederneiras started as a dancer and became choreographer of practically all of Grupo Corpo’s work as of 1981. 

The Grupo performs annually in Europe and in the Americas.  

Considered the Jiri Kylian of Brazil, Rodrigo Pederneiras brings into the ballet technique, choreographic structures, the liberty, flexibility of modern dance, the sinuosity, and the complex rhythmic action of the torso 

pertaining to African dance. Its group is considered to be “South America’s sexiest dance company”.

Lately, Grupo Corpo has toured the world: Kennedy Center in 2002, Brooklyn Academy of Music in 2002, Montréal in 2002, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in 2002 and 2004, London, Zurich, Minneapolis and other tours and they are booked up through 2006.
