Nidal
el
Achkar,
the
grand
dame
of
Arabic
theater.
A
great
actor
and
an
innovative
director,
Nidal
el
Achkar
occupies
an
essential
position
on
the
theatrical
scene
in
Lebanon
as
well
as
in the
Arab
world.
Having
played
roles
for
theater,
television
and
the
cinema,
Nidal
remains
a
gifted
director
who
have studied in
the
most
prestigious
schools
,
the
“Royal
Academy
of
Drama
and
Art”
(RADA)
in
London. She
pursued
her
formation
in
various
theater
workshops
and
troups
worldwide.
Her
long
academic
experience
combined
with
her
strong
recognized
talent
gave
birth
to
a
unique
phenomena on
the
theater
stage,
a
phenomena
called
Nidal
el
Achkar
.
A
woman
dedicated
theater,
a
highly
acclaimed
actress,
an
innovative
director,
and
above
all,
a
woman
of
great
heart
who
embraces
and
fights
for
justice,
rightfulness,
beauty,
causes
where
the
human
element
is
always
at
is
core.
Nidal
el
Achkar
undoubtfully
provoked
a
radical
change
in
the
course
of
both
Lebanese
and
Arabic
theater.
Her
lifelong
experience
in
the
“Beirut
theater
workshop”
(the
60’s)
and
among
the
“Arab
Actors”
(80’s)
is
but
a
witness
this
change.
With
her,
theater
moved
to
a
group
work
concept
introducing
new
techniques
whether
in
acting,
or
in
producing.
Nidal
el
Achkar
remains
truly
an
anchor
stone
that
will
hardly
repeat
itself
on
the
Arabic
stage.
A
woman
in
constant
worry
in
search
for
knowledge,
pursing
modernity,
instigating
dialogue,
pushing
for
innovation
and
modernity.
In
her
person
one
could
read
the
history
of
the
theater
movement.
Her
increasingly
growing
“repertoire”
comprises
not
only
an
array
of
different
roles
but
also
embraces
deep
human
causes
and
concerns.
She
goes
deeply
into
our
collective
popular
heritage
in
order
to
venture
into
the
avant-guarde.
Each
of
her
characters
is
intensively
studied
to
build
a
complete
image.
It
remains
difficult
to
captivate
the
personality
of
this
gifted
actress,
but
one
thing
is
certain:
Nidal
el
Achkar
has
been
long
consecrated
as
the
Grand
Dame
of
the
Arabic
theater
