Beiteddine Festival

The Grand opening on July 3 will feature Andrew Lloyd Webber's masterpiece CATS, the most successful show ever. Winner of 7 Tony Awards, CATS holds the unique position of being the longest running musical. CATS has been seen by 50 million people in 150 cities and was performed in 14 different languages. The show will be performed during six consecutive nights from July 3 to July 8.

In the magical atmosphere of the inner courtyard, Zad Moultaka will present on July 12 an 13 a concert specially created for Beiteddine "Mouwashah al Haramlek". A tribute to traditional poems and old songs interpreted by the wonderful Fadia Tomb El-Hage.

"Sahara and Arabian Rhythms" with Khaled, the King of Rai, Hakim, the Lion of Egypt and the Sheikh of Sha'abi music accompanied by the internationally acclaimed Master of oud and violin Simon Shaheen & Qantara, Award winning Jazz & World Fusion project featured on their latest album "Blue Flame". A blend of the Algerian blues known as Rai, with Egyptian sha'abi music and oriental rhythms. The show has toured in the United States and Canada with great success. One night only, July 15.

The internationally acclaimed Master of oud and violon Simon Shaheen & Qantara, Award wining Jazz & World Fusion project featured on their latest album "Blue Flame", will present on July 16 a new Arabic sound with jazz and blues. their latest album which has received 11 Grammy nominations.

A Karma evening is our contribution to World Music: Tabla Beat Science will unite for the first  time ever six artists, each a legend in his field: Zakir Hussein, Bill Laswell, Ustad Sultan Khan, Karsh Kale, DJ Disk, Hariprasad Chaurasia and Gigi. Fusion at its best on July 19.

The festival's pride this year is a night at the opera on July 24 with the world acclaimed tenor José Carreras with the Lebanese soprano Rima Tawil. This encounter is a premiere as it joins Maestro Carreras with thte Lebanese  soprano, winner of the scala de Milan award. They will be accompanied by the Budapest Concert Orchestra directed by David Gimenez. A milestone i Lebanon's Lyrical history.

From Weimar to Paris with the Divine Ute Lemper who will interpret the best of Kurt Weill, Marlene Dietrich and Edith Piaf. Her exceptional stage presence and rich repertoire of Berlin songs from the Cabaret period of the twenties will enchat all connoisseurs. Not to be missed on July 27.

Youssou N'Dour has crafted and invented a thoroughly modern African pop style. "If any third world performer has a real shot at the sort of universal popularity last enjoyed by Bob Marley, it's Youssou N'Dour, a singer with a voice so extraordinary that the history of Africa seems locked inside it", says Brian Cullman in the Rolling Stones Magazine. Meet him in August 1st.

Fairouz in her awaited repertoire of classical masterpieces will be our finale on August 9 and 10. A retrospective of songs and poems that made her the number one star of the Arab World.

Gilberto Gil is one of the most important singers, composers and instrumentalists of modern Brazilian pop music as he is a distinguished personality on the Brazilian cultural scene. He was the first to import reggae to Brazil and to explore the links between Brazilian and West African music. He has recorded 32 albums and had many released in Europe, America, Japan,etc… For his Kaya N' Gan Daya tour, Gilberto Gil sings Bob Marley, as well as many of his own famous songs.

Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance Temple of Jupiter Lord of the Dance is the most popular touring dance production in history. Angela Gheorghiu (Romanian soprano) and Roberto Alagna (French tenor) are the mythical lyrical couple of the 21st century. They have performed at the most prestigious international opera houses and have won many prizes for singing in duet and on their own. They interpreted the most important roles of the opera such as Romeo and Juliette at Covent Garden and La Bohème in Paris and performed in the opera-movie ‘Tosca’ by Benoît Jacquot. "Roberto Alagna's voice is heroic yet lyrical with an urgent poignancy to it… Alagna is the real thing" (Opera News Magazine). "…Angela Gheorghiu almost succeeds to make one forget the reference of Callas" (Libération). "Her timbre is perfect" (BBC Music Magazine). At the Baalbeck International Festival, Mr. Alagna & Ms. Gheorghiu will be accompanied by the Lebanese National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Giorgio Croci.
