A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM

Starting: 4 November 1999
Showing in:
Circuit Empire

Production Information

"The course of true love never did run smooth..."It is the turn of the 19th century in Tuscany. Necklines are high. Parents are rigid. And the fate of the young is at the mercy of strict moral values. The good news? The bustle is in decline, allowing for the meteoric rise of this newfangled creation - the bicycle.

Welcome to Villa Athena, where in one glorious midsummer night, an unsuspecting world is set alight by desire and passion - only to discover why love makes fool of us all.

Christian Bale, Rupert Everett, Calista Flockhart, Kevin Kline, Sophie Marceau, Michelle Pfeiffer, David Strathairn and Stanley Tucci star in this sumptuous telling of the Bard's most magical comedy. Teeming with dangerous potions, fairy warfare and misbegotten romances, "William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream" is the wondrous tale of a singular night when roguish spirits turn the challenge of true love on its head.

A Midsummer Night's Dream

Rupert Everett: as the jealous king of the Fairies, Oberon. With Puck, his loyal sidkick  at his side, he can't pass up the opportunity to toy with the mortals and immortals alike.

Calista Flockhart: as Helenan the adoring and desperate secret admirer of Demetrius.

Kevin Kline: as Bottom, the unlikely lover of the Fairy Queen. The hammy lead of the acting troupe is soon to find true love under the strangest of circumstances.

Michel Pfeiffer: as the heavenly Fairy Queen, Titania. She can't resist Puck's lovespell and is drawn inexplicably to the man with a mule's head.

Stanley Tucci: as Lieutenant Puck. Ever mischievious, ever playful, this sprite can't help himself when it comes at the expense of others.
