Synopsis:
Elaine
(Glenn Close) is a gynecologist who lives with her
frail aging mother and is startled one day by a visit from
a young psychic, Christine. She tells her she will be
leaving the house soon and there is a new man coming into
her life.
Rebecca (Holly Hunter) is a bank manager,
and constantly struggles to assert herself in the male
dominated world. She is having a steamy affair with a
married man, Robert, and when she unexpectedly finds
herself pregnant with Robert's child is disappointed at
his reaction. She reluctantly makes the decision to have
an abortion and is referred to Dr. Eliaine Miller.
Christine (Calista Flockhart) tends to her
terminally ill friend and lover, Lilly trying to keep her
spirits up. One night as Lilly weakens she refuses to go
to the hospital, preferring instead to reminisce about the
first time they met and their first kiss. It is the last
night they will spend together. |

Kathy (Amy Brenneman) is a detective and is
investigating an apparent suicide of a young woman. At
home where she cares for her blind sister, Carol, Kathy
talks about the case. Carol predicts there will be a man
involved.
Carol (Cameron Diaz) is excited by the new
man in her life, the father of a blind girl she is
teaching to read brail. After several evenings together
she spends the night with him. He stands her up on their
next date.
Rose (Kathy Baker) is a single mother trying
to raise her teenage son, Jay, and deal with all the
problems that teenage angst brings. They watch as a
new neighbor moves into the house next door, a 'little
person' called Albert and Jay teases Rose that he could be
the new man in her life.
A dramatic and gripping anthology about the lives
of six women living in the San Fernando Valley in
California which confronts the very real issues for the
women in the world today. With a stellar cast of
award-winning actresses the film is a controversial and
emotionally charged experience.
