BRIDGE OF DRAGONS

Showing in: Circuit Planete
Starting: April 6, 2000

Production Information:

Set in a post-war holocaust, BRIDGE OF DRAGONS tells the story of two warring nations left from the aftermath and threatening to wipe out the population for good. They are divided into the "Confederation of Scientific Technology" and "The Republic." The first is pushing for a return to and the advancement of technology while the latter rejects it.

The story opens in the heat of a battle between two nations. Our hero, Warchykld, tears through the opposing forces like a vengeful fury. At the same time, in a mansion overlooking a vast spread of out-dated villages, a young oriental girl, Halo, waits to be married to Roechang, a high-ranking general for the Republic. She is also a Taoist priestess, trained in ancient martial arts.

Unfortunately she is not in love with the general and on their wedding day she escapes and becomes a fugitive.

Warchyld, tired of constant battle, walks among the ruins. is on a missions to destroy an enemy despot. This is not the first time he's been on such a mission. In fact, he's been killing his enemies since childhood. He is good at what he does, but over time age and experience have raised a beginnings of doubts in what he is doing.

Warchyld penetrates an enemy target as instructed. Inside the building he fires at everyone who comes within range, "killing the enemy." One man remains alive, bleeding and praying. Warchyld cannot find it within himself to kill the man, The man talks to Warchyld who discovers that he is in a church and has just killed a group of priests, He knows that this should make no difference to him because religion has been banned, but he is unable to brush the fact, possibly a feeling of guilt away.

He returns to his superiors, telling them that he is no longer willing to continue killing at their direction. They now see him as a threat and send out an assassin to kill him. The assassin, Jeremy, is also the man who trained him. He too has found a conscience and is torn between his friend and his cause. Warchyld is on the run and being chased by his won people.

Back as the front, Halo rides as far away from her land as possible. She finds a hidings spot by a river and  allows herself a bath in the water. Suddenly a group of Republic soldiers finds her and begins to tease her. Using beauty as a weapon, she tricks and kills the leader. Besides her martial arts training she has a cache of ancient weapons. In the midst of the battle, Warchld appears and helps her to dispose of the last remaining soldiers.

The two decide to join together in their flight from their countries and soon stops in a tavern to eat. There are a group of soldiers becoming increasingly boisterous. Warchyld and Halo interrupts them and quickly disperse them. The innkeeper thanks them and supplies them with several days of food for the road. After numerous skirmishes and battle along the way, they fin d a sanctuary. There they are wed and afterward move on. While trying to rescue a captive girl, they are captured and taken prisoner by their former, respective sides. Halo is due to be beheaded and Warchykd is left crucified on a cross. He yells to the soldiers below him that although he is going to die there, at least he is free.

Halo manages to escape and returns to rescue Warchyld. They ride away to find a life away from the madness and gallop past a man on foot. We see that it is Jeremy and the three exchange looks. Jeremy gives them a peace sign, lets them go unhindered, knowing that he will be the next outlaw.
