(Roman Column
47 km)
This monument stands alone in the center of the Beqaa plain
halfway between Baalbeck and the town of Chlifa. The
eighteen-meter column, with a Corinthian capital, stands on
four huge stone steps. A plaque which was once on the north
face has been removed and with it went all information about
the column. Local legend associates it with St. Helena, but it
is most likely a funerary monument. |
