Pottery and Roman Remains
(27 Km from Batroun)

Asiya retains many characteristics of the traditional Lebanese village. At its upper elevation is the old church of St. George, probably built on the foundations of a Roman temple. A Roman cornice can be seen above the entrance to the church cemetery. Beside this entrance is a wall fragment of large dressed stones and a section of column and capital.
The craft of pottery-making here, handed down through the generations, is on the wane. Nevertheless, a few home workshops still operate not far from the old church. Local potters will be glad to show you the bowls, plates and dishes they make without the aid of a potter's wheel.
