Under the title "SCL '95", Lebanese academicians and professionals held a two-day meeting at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston to discuss their potential contribution to postwar development in Lebanon.
This first annual conference was organized through Soc.Culture.Lebanon, a Lebanese Internet group.
The presentations concentrated on the transfer of emerging technologies to Lebanon by Lebanese researchers in North America. Specifically, the talks encompassed a wide range of topics, including the Lebanese electric power system, automated manufacturing, multimedia applications in education, Internet links to Lebanon, energy conservation opportunities, environmental protection, and biotechnology.
Ten participants from this year's meeting volunteered to coordinate next year's conference under the same theme of "Postwar Development in Lebanon." The main goal of these conferences is to effectively and sustainably transfer information and technologies developed abroad to Lebanon.
