Jounblat

The workshop of plastic arts in Rachaya organized a debate with Minister Walid Jounblat, which was also attended by the vice-president of the parliament, deputy Elie El-Ferzli, along with deputies Faysal El-Daoud and Marwan Fares.

Jounblat asked the parliament to bear its responsibilities in redeeming the confidence granted to the government, noting that the cause of the crisis was the lack of upright strategy. Jounblat also talked about the loss occurring in public sector, as well as about corruption, adding that the powers of the President of the Republic shouldn't be substituted by those of the prime Minister.

He stated a government of national consensus is required now, so that opposition would be represented within the Cabinet , then he asked to have a judicial committee in order to unveil corruption scandals and adjust the national policy.

Soudre left Beirut

The French Minister , Mrs Margie Soudre left yesterday Beirut, after a visit which lasted four days. In the airport, she declared she was going to do her best to establish a French-broadcasting network in Lebanon, adding that an audio-visual expert would visit the country by the end of  November or at the beginning of  December, to study this project thoroughly and start working on it.

On Saturday morning Soudre met the entrusted Prime Minister Mr. Rafiq Al-Hariri, along with the French ambassador in Beirut, Mr. Jean-Pierre Lafond.

Then, she went to Baalbeck and made a tour in the ancient fort.

In the evening she met with the Minister of Dislodged People Mr. Walid Jounblat, after making a tour, along with deputy George Dib Nehmeh and Mrs Noura Jounblat, in the people palace in Beit Eddine and in the French cultural center, in Dayr El-Qamar.

Bkerkeh visitors

The Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir celebrated yesterday in Bkerkeh the holy Mass, and delivered a sermon, in which he asked God to help everyone make the difference between private and public interests, so that the country could be shielded from future crises.

After the holy Mass, Sfeir was joined by a delegation of Azar family, on the occasion of the annual mass celebrated for Azar Family League. Then, he met with a delegation of the Lions Club Jounieh. The club members complained about the highway A-2, which would deform the most beautiful region in the country, that is Kesrwan.

Bkerkeh was also visited by a delegation of the students of the second branch in the Lebanese university. The students submitted a petition to the Patriarch, in which they exposed their situation after the government decision to fuse together some of the faculties of the Lebanese university.

Sfeir was also joined by the dean of the Health Faculty in the Lebanese University, Dr. Bernadette Abi Saleh, and then by deputy Mansour Ghanem El-Bon.

El-Hoss met with Karameh

Last Saturday, President Salim El-Hoss visited president Omar Karameh in Tripoli . After the meeting, El-Hoss declared he discussed various issues, including the constitution of a government, pointing out to the portfolios crisis. He added that an opposition bloc within the parliament might very well be founded, and called for a cabinet of national consensus, in order to review its priorities.

President Karameh, on the other hand, noted the necessity of a national bloc of opposition. He also stated that, in any civilized country, when someone talks about corruption, the office of the attorney general takes the appropriate measures to unveil the truth and bring even officials, before justice, while here the presidents themselves speak loudly about scandals.

Amal Leaders Commemoration.

The Amal Movement held, in Kfar Tebnit, a commemoration ceremony for its 3 leaders: Daoud Daoud, Mahmoud Faqih and Hasan Sabtyeh. Were attending deputies Mohammed Baydoun, Abd Ellatif  Ezzain and Ali Khorais, besides the general director of the Ministry of Information, Mohammed Obeid, the head of the council for the south, Mr Qabalan Qabalan, and members of the different bodies of the Movement, as well as the head of Imam Assadr Institute for Islamic Studies, Assayed Ali El-Amin, and many other persons.

In this commemoration, several speeches were delivered, among which Mr. El-Amin's who praised the late leaders for their deeds. They have fought for justice and equality, and for a free and sovereign country, and that is needed very much now. El-Amin also pointed that the poor wouldn't be seen but in villages and shanty-towns, and not in palaces.

Deputy Baydoun also made a speech saying there should be a government aware of the social crisis, and that president Al-Hariri wanted to form a government of employees who would work for him. Thus the Prime Minister's Project seemed to be private one, and if objection was raised, a political crisis would occur.
