The President of the Republic, Mr. Elias Al-Hrawi received yesterday the American ambassador in Beirut, Mr. Richard Jones, who delivered him a message from the American President, Mr. Bill Clinton, about the conference of Lebanon Friends, which would be held on next December 16th.
Mr. Jones also visited the entrusted Prime Minister, Mr. Rafiq Al-Hariri, and gave him a copy of president Clinton's letter.
Yesterday, the entrusted Prime Minister, Mr. Rafiq Al-Hariri spent the whole day in his office in the governmental palace, where he was joined by several ministers, in order to conduct matters.
He met with the coordinator of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). Ross Mountain, then with Ministers Estefan Eddwayhi, Michel El-Murr, and Asaad Hardan, besides deputy Michel Faraoun.
Deputy Nasib Lahoud criticized the way the President of the Republic described the social situation in the country as a whole, a few days ago.
He noted that, while the government constitution was delayed, officials were not embarrassed to blame all citizens about the declining situation.
It was their laziness that caused unemployment leading to a social crisis, and not the lack of socio-economic strategies by the government.
After 24 hours of the written notes sent by President Rafiq Al-Hariri to the Mouhafez of Beirut, Mr. Nicholas Saba, and to the head of the Reconstruction and Development Council, Mr. Nabil El-Jisr, a meeting headed by Minister Michel El-Murr was held to deal on with the heavy rain issue.
It was decided to ask the head of the Emergencies Committee, and agents of Departments which were carrying out works, besides about 200 workers, to be completely ready, in order to handle the problem, whenever it might occur.
President Salim El-Hoss received yesterday a delegation of the Committe of audio-visual media workers, who came to thank him for defending their cause . President El-Hoss reaffirmed his position of rejecting the government decision to authorize the audio and visual broadcasting in some media only.
