March 2, 1999: Arabcom 99
Global Video Conferencing participated in the Arabcom 99, the second Arabic International Telecom Exhibition Development Congress & Exhibition for the Arab States. The Exhibition took place at the Beirut Hall (Sin el Fil) from February 28 till March 2, 1998.

During this event, GVC displayed its three videophone models: the VC150 desktop, the VC105 set-top and the Remote Surveillance module. Each videophone had its own dedicated telephone line to enable live demonstrations between external videophone sites and the Arabcom. Furthermore, GVC was a guest speaker at a press conference held at the Beirut Hall (March 2,1999) during which Mr.Abdul Kader Minkara lectured about videoconferencing and more specifically about the H.324 standard videophone, its features and its related applications. While conferring, Mr.Minkara showed the audience a computer powerpoint presentation through a videophone connection between the GVC office at Clemenceau and the Beirut Hall.

The procedure for setting up a remote powerpoint presentation is simple: We used one 'Remote Surveillance' videophone (3 video inputs) at the Clemenceau site. The first video input is a camera (for face-to-face communication) and a second video input is a (composite RCA) video output from a computer. At the Beirut hall site, we used a VC105 set-top videophone and connected its video output to a standard video projector. With the mentioned setup complete, all we had to do was dial from one site to the other and we had everything displayed on the computer screen at Clemenceau trasmitted to the Beirut hall site in live full-color video at 20 frames per second.

Jan.30,1999: CITEC 99
On January 29-30, 1999, Global Video Conferencing participated in the first conference on Telecomunications & Information Technology organized by the order of Engineers & Architects in Tripoli. This event was known as (CITEC 99) and was held under the patronage of Dr.Issam Naaman, the minister of Post and Telecommunications.

During this event, GVC displayed its three videophone models: the VC150 desktop, the VC105 set-top and the Remote Surveillance module. Each videophone had its own dedicated telephone line to enable live demonstrations between Beirut and Tripoli. Dec.25, 1998: H324 Multi-Conference Unit
GVC engineers are continuously developing videoconferencing solutions that conform to the Lebanese market requirements and needs. At the end of 1998, GVC successfully desgined and implemented a videophone (H324) Multi-Conference Unit (MCU) which enables up to 4 participants to talk and see each other simultaneously (continuous presence) through a H324 videophone device and a regular telephone line. GVC's MCU offers "dial-in" and "dial-out" schedualed conference meetings. The conference initiator needs to schedule a meeting for "dial-in", where all the participants call into our office to connect to the MCU, or for "dial-out", where our office connects the participants to the MCU by calling them individually.

Dec.6, 1998: Newborn Garden Project
The effects of the War and the lack of ecological awareness have left Lebanon stripped from its green and beautiful landscapes. We must therefore help promote a healthier environment for our children to live in.

The "Newborn Garden Project", created by the AUB Alumni club, consists of planting a tree for every child born on that day. The tree will be tagged and will bear the name of the newborn baby.

Our role was to setup videophones in five different locations across Lebanon (Tripoli, Faraya, Bekaa, Saida and Nabatiyeh). The videophones will transmit live color video (20 frames per second) through standard telephone lines to the Beirut Municipality Garden, where the Newborn Garden Project will be launched and broadcast by the television media (Future Tv). Our videophones will make possible the live transmission of every tree being planted in every municipality and thus contribute to making this environmental event a more interactive experience for all the people who have helped make it a reality.

Oct.4, 1998: Termuim 98
From Sept.29-Oct.4 1998, Global Video Conferencing attended the Beirut Information and Technology Exhibition (Termium 98). During this event, GVC displayed its videoconferencing applications: from business videoconferencing, to family oriented videophones to remote surveillance applications.

The Remote Surveillance module was a great success. The Remote Surveillance Module is a device specifically designed for surveillance applications. With three camera inputs that give no visible indication upon activation, you can monitor any location, at any time from anywhere, whether at home or across the world, through your normal telephone.
