In parallel with the reconstruction and development of the traditional Beirut Central District, the creation of a modern, 61-hectare extension to the city on reclaimed land is proceeding. Visible advances in land reclamation and sea defense works, and the launching of the second phase of land treatment, are preparing for the development of the new site. Destined to become a prime business and residential district, with leisure activities centering around an
exciting waterfront and two marinas, the new land will greatly enhance the international character of Beirut and the city center in particular.
