The Spanish cultural center Instituto Cervantes has moved to building 287 Maarad street. Prime Minister Rafik Hariri attended the opening ceremony on January 23, along with the institute's director general Jon Juaristi, Culture and Tourism ministers Ghassan Salameh and Karam Karam, and Spanish ambassador Miguel Carriedo.

SOLIDERE shares started the quarter on a steady note, trading between US$41/2 and US$5 during the first two months. Early March, both shares moved above US$5, after the Company announced that US$120 million worth of built-up space had been sold since the beginning of the year. By the quarter end, however, turmoil in the Middle East took its toll on the shares. Share A closed the quarter unchanged, at US$45/8; while share B closed slightly below US$41/2, 2.7% lower than the previous quarter. Trading activity turned higher, with around 1,813,152 shares exchanging hands. In addition, two Special Orders were executed off the market floor, involving 2 million B shares and 950,000 A shares at US$51/8 each. The GDRs, traded on the London Stock Exchange, moved higher during the quarter, closing at US$51/8.
