American Lebanese Chamber of Commerce
The establishment of the American Lebanese  Chamber of Commerce was announced by its chairman Selim Zeenni, at a press conference held on January 19, followed by a reception. The event was attended by US deputy assistant-secretary of commerce Molly Williamson, US ambassador David Satterfield and National Economy minister Nasser Saidi. The Chamber has set up offices in Beirut city center

World Bank permanent Beirut office

The World Bank's permanent Beirut office, located in UN House, was officially inaugurated on January 25. The Bank's resident representative Hari Prasad, together with Kemal Dervis, vice-president for the Middle East and Africa, welcomed guests who included Finance minister George Corm and Central Bank governor Riad Salameh.

Phonecia Hotel

The Phonecia Intercontinental Hotel opened on March 4, 2000, with the first function, a celebration dinner held in the hotel ballroom by the Grand Order of the Knights of Malta. Arab Health Ministers held their 24th conference from March 27 to 31 in the newly opened hotel.
