The grotto was discovered in 1836 and opened to visitors in final form in
1955 by the Commissariate for Tourism. It is situated 20 km. from Beirut,
in the valley of Nahr-el-kalb ( Dog River). The road forks off the Beirut
- Jounieh highway at the level of Zouk Mosbeh, a short distance from the
road tunnel. Boat ride on internal lake of the lower grotto 800 meters. Multicolored concretions illuminated along the galleries. Total depth of the lower grotto 6200 meters . Known depth of the upper grotto 600 meters. |
